Its goal is to help the unemployed gain skills and training for jobs in high demand sectors, like security guard services. The program’s Individual Training Grant (ITG) pays for all required classes (plus license filing and fingerprinting processing fees) needed to obtain a New York State security guard license, a requirement for employment as a security guard. The courses, given by licensed New York State security guard schools, include:

Fire Guard

As you are taking your security guard training, you can at the same time train for your fire guard certification. Fire guard primary duty to prevent fires or to notify the Fire Department by calling 911. The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) administers and enforces building fire code policies to promote fire safety and prevention. Certified by the FDNY, licensed fire guards play an important role in enforcing building fire code policies and promoting public safety. Different types of buildings and settings where fire guards are deployed require different types of knowledge, so the FDNY has developed different certifications.

First Aid

This course is designed for security guards and other non-medical personnel who may be required to respond to medical emergencies as part of the responsibilities of their job. It will teach you the lifesaving skills you will need in the event that someone suffers a cardiac, breathing or other emergency requiring first aid prior to the arrival of advanced medical personnel. It includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques (CPR) and use of the automated external defibrillator devices (AED). The class runs five hours and its successful completion will result in Red Cross certification
